Jan Durovčík is a choreographer, dancer and director.
He was born on April 10, 1971 in Michalovci. He studied choreography at the University of Performing Arts (VŠMU) in Bratislava, and later got an engagement as a soloist at H.F. Dansetheatre Amsterdam and taught modern dance at the International Dance Stage Bornem in Belgium.
In 1993, he founded the twelve-member ballet Torzo, which was the first attempt at a professional modern dance theater in Slovakia. In the second half of the 90s, he led as a co-founder the Bratislava Dance Theatre, which was later followed by the Slovak Dance Theatre.
He is a regular guest at Prague’s Kalich Theater and co-owner/mentor of the Heineken Tower Stage.
