Project

Kunsthalle Bratislava

Kunsthalle Bratislava is a non-collecting state contribution organization of the exhibition, documentation and educational type with nationwide scope in the field of contemporary visual art. The main mission of the organization is to professionally and purposefully present contemporary visual art in all its breadth and diversity, systematically map it, professionally reflect and make it available to domestic as well as foreign audiences. One of the goals of KHB’s activities is international support and visibility of Slovak art abroad. It is located in the exhibition and administrative premises of the House of Art in the epicenter of Bratislava.

KHB was established by the decision of the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic on January 1, 2014 as a result of long-term initiatives of artists and theorists, but also of the wider cultural public for the creation of a representative exhibition space in the capital of Slovakia. Originally, KHB was founded as the Slovak Center for Visual Arts (SCVU) and was organizationally part of the structure of the National Educational Center (NOC). Since July 2016, it has been a section of the Slovak National Gallery (SNG) with a special status. As of January 1, 2020, KHB was established by its own charter as an independent state-funded organization of the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic under the official name Kunsthalle Bratislava.
